The idea for the Gallery Styles block came from one or more of our customers’ websites’ requirements. They were missing functions that could very easily be implemented using a block. You quickly notice that it takes a lot of effort if you want to make the block available to others and link it to wordpress.org.
- On the one hand, you need solutions that can be configured, which requires further development effort
- But most of the time you spend removing errors that don’t actually affect your own websites.
Nevertheless, we were able to identify errors and fix them. Both are not easy and you think the community will sort everything out. A big help is now having your own demo page, which can be used to carry out nice configurations and to discover errors as quickly as possible. A demo page like this has always proven to be the best in the past.

The expansion
Two features of a WordPross/core gallery have been improved:
- Giving images a visual effect and
- Sorting images afterwards
Developing your own image galleries is far too complicated when you consider that the existing WordPress/core block is already very good. There are only three things missing:
- Effects
- Sorting
- Enlarge view
Building on these basic pillars, a block was developed that is simply an extension of the WordPress/core block. No further properties were and are currently required. It’s actually very simple in concept.
Maybe this path of block development because the “enlarge view” feature is already used by many plug-ins, there are very good solutions here, they just don’t provide their own gallery and are only based on existing gallery solutions. And so a “enlarge view” feature is always being considered, but will probably not be implemented
